EROS Moves to ColdFire

EROS, the Embedded Real-Time Operating System from MicroSockets, has arrived on the ColdFire platform.

EROS is a proprietary kernel for hard real-time applications that features a mixed model of priority-based and time-sliced pre-emptive multi-tasking. Core operating system features including semaphores, event blocks, shared memory and extension timers are fully implemented in a lightweight 16K footprint.

EROS serves a core building block for embedded applications where real-time performance is critical and resources are limited. In addition to ColdFire, EROS runs on 68000 and x86 platforms.

"EROS provides a solid platform for proprietary software development and gives our team a jumpstart on project implementation", explains MicroSockets President Michael Terry. "It enables us to delivery a royalty-free OS for embedded development out of the gate without the restrictions or overhead of competing solutions. Running on FreeScale's ColdFire architecture opens up a broad array of modern applications that require high-performance networking and communications."

Operating system selection for embedded applications is critical for project success. EROS provides a lightweight solution that features microsecond performance for hard real-time applications.
